Costume Jewellery Necklace

Anyone for tennis? How a classic necklace is making a big splash this summer

We might associate diamond necklaces with awards ceremonies and formal occasions, but 2021 is the year they’re coming out of the jewellery box and into our everyday repertoire – and it’s all because of one particular style.

The tennis necklace has been making a huge comeback for the summer, popping up on the necklines of influencers everywhere.  A quick hashtag search on Instagram alone brings up a whopping 42,000 results, driven by the likes of fashion star Chiara Ferragni (who is rarely seen without hers).

We’ve also previously spotted Naomi Campbell, Lily James and Blake Lively sporting these elegant chains, which are sometimes referred to as eternity necklaces and feature an unbroken row of sparkly gemstones.

The trend was foreseen last autumn by The Zoe Report, which said the look is polished and simple enough to go alongside any outfit. Indeed, the fact that tennis necklaces have popped back up in a more slimline way than in the 80s and 90s makes this especially true – they’ll look just as great with loungewear as they will with a smart shirt or dress.

Hello! magazine has also been highlighting the tennis necklace as a top summer trend, pointing out that we should treat every day as a special occasion and therefore dress up even our plain white T-shirts with a little bling.

LA-based jewellery designer Lizzie Mandler told the Zoe Report she enjoys “the mechanism behind each link that allows it to move seamlessly with the body” and how the accessory “can be both fancy and casual at the same time“.

These are characteristics we appreciate here at Majique too – there’s a lovely fluidity to a tennis necklace that makes it so comfortable to wear, plus we like seeing them draped across the top of a T-shirt or sweatshirt for a nod to dressing up.

What’s more, you can stack your tennis necklaces with longer lengths if you want to make the look a little bit extra and express even more personality.

If you’d like to get in on this trend but your budget won’t stretch to real diamonds, then we’re here to help. Faux diamonds can look just as good as the real thing, plus you won’t be as worried about throwing your tennis necklace on every day if it didn’t cost the earth.

Check out our beautiful tennis style in yellow gold tones (it also comes in silver-toned and rose gold-toned), or our slightly larger style with the stones in a more raised setting if you want to dip your toes in first.

Mixed doubles are optional, but we think the tennis look will be here to stay this summer.
