If you’re a regular reader of these pages, you might remember that we talked back in February about how chain link jewellery would be huge news for the months ahead.
Fast forward seven months and it seems as though the trend is only gathering momentum. On the catwalks and in all the fresh new releases from the world’s hottest designer brands, chains have been super-sized for A/W 2020-21 and feature on everything from dresses and handbags to loafers.
With names like Bottega Veneta and JW Anderson showcasing them as a statement accessory, it was only a matter of time before this translated into the styles we’re now seeing in our costume jewellery.
Indeed, fashion search engine Tag-walk noted a 63 per cent increase in searches for chain necklaces during the autumn shows this year compared with the same events in 2019.
Fashion buyer Tiffany Hsu told Yahoo! Style: “Chain-link jewellery has been in the spotlight for some time now, but this season, the trend gets bigger – literally and figuratively.”
Katie Wright, a fashion expert for the Irish News, explained chain link jewellery is the ideal transitional piece as we move from an Indian summer into autumn, as it works equally well on bare skin and layered clothing.
As for us, we love the fact that chunky chains are full of attitude and can make a real statement, yet they’re so quick and easy at the same time. They don’t take any extra styling effort, which is perfect if you’re having to return to the office this autumn.
