You’ll no doubt be aware by now that Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 is Classic Blue. It was announced in December 2019 among much fanfare, replacing Living Coral as the must-have hue in jewellery, interiors and fashion.
We were pleased to see this pretty shade getting its time in the spotlight, as it’s so adaptable and – as Pantone pointed out – very calming and elegant to look at.
Indeed, blue stones have long been a stalwart in the fine and costume jewellery industries for this reason, with gems like sapphire and lapis lazuli enjoying an enduring popularity as a timeless alternative to diamonds and diamantes.
Now that we’re firmly in February and spring is in sight, we were wondering how you’ve been enjoying Classic Blue so far and if you’re looking forward to incorporating it in your outfits for S/S 2020?
Don’t forget that dark blue isn’t just a hue for the winter months – it’s one of those colours that work year-round. For fashion jewellery, it’s also something that looks equally as good in a gold-toned setting as it does in silver, making it enormously versatile.
For this spring, we plan on making a statement with bold blues alongside neutrals, like with this eye-catching acrylic chain link necklace that’s brand new to the website. It’s the perfect representation of the pops of colour we’re finally seeing re-emerging in nature outdoors – we’d suggest teaming it with cropped indigo jeggings and a brown or cream linen jacket for the perfect weekend outfit.
Then, as the warmer weather really starts to kick in, dark blue can be accented with lighter blues, silver and dusky pink tones for a sophisticated yet bohemian floral feel. Check out pieces like this fab bracelet for inspiration, which we would put with navy palazzo pants and a barely-there grey or pale peony top to create effortless style for work.
At Majique HQ, we’d love to know what you’ve been making of Classic Blue so far and what your fashion ideas are for the months ahead. Feel free to get in touch or tag us on social media – and check out our range of blue jewellery if you’re in need of a top-up!
