Jewellery buyers: Don't forget to reply to your Majique GDPR emails!
You might have noticed that we recently sent all of our customers an email requesting renewed permission to store data such as email addresses, personal addresses and mobile phone numbers.
If you haven't already, you'll need to reply to it soon to confirm that you would like us to continue to store your information if you do indeed wish to carry on shopping and interacting with us. We know - it's easy to overlook and tell yourself you'll do it tomorrow. However, there is going to be a change when it comes to data privacy and our email concerns this overhaul.
What is GDPR?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes from the EU and is part of efforts to update data protection to make it fit for the 21st century.
It replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 and is aimed at giving people more control over how businesses collect and use their data. In an era where we regularly give our personal information away in exchange for things like accounts on social media, it's undoubtedly an important change for the better.
GDPR will apply from May 25th 2018 and all 'controllers' and 'processors' will need to comply or risk sizeable fines and penalties. At Majique, we are classed under these categories, which is why we're one of the businesses that needs to seek your renewed permission to have information like your email address in our possession.
We need to demonstrate to the necessary parties that processing data lawfully, transparently and for a specific purpose - i.e. to allow us to fulfil your orders and send you news updates.
If you have consented to your data being processed, it's lawful and appropriate for us to continue to do this.
Why we need you
Importantly, this sea change isn't just something that we can notify you about and then carry on as usual; renewed consent must come from active, affirmative action by the data subject, namely pressing the button on an email and verifying you're happy with it.
We can then keep a record of how and when an individual gave consent - although you can feel free to withdraw it at any time.
What to do next
The new form for consent can be found in a button at the bottom of the email you'll already have received from Majique.
It is a formal request for your consent to us holding information concerning your business name, contact name, address, shipment address, email address, mobile phone number, landline number and any other information necessary to retain your account with us.
All you have to do is click the button to say you consent to us retaining this.
We will have to remove your details unless you have positively given us your consent, which means you may not receive the emails you have subscribed to from us and the account details necessary for quick log-in during orders will not be retained.
We know it's one more thing to add to your to-do list - but we'd love to keep in touch with you, so don't forget to take a moment to reply to our message in advance of the changes coming into effect. Thank you, from everyone at Majique.
