Best supporting accessories: The hottest Oscar 2015 outfits

The ultimate night in the movie calendar has come and gone. Yesterday (Sunday February 23rd) was the 87th annual Academy Awards, which saw Hollywood's best walk away with Oscars or honourable mentions.

As well as Eddie Redmayne winning the award for Best Actor and Patricia Arquette calling for pay equality in her Best Supporting Actress acceptance speech, the evening also brought with it plenty of glittering high fashion.

From modern styles to classic ball gowns, the movie elite looked fabulous on the red carpet. Picking the best looks of the evening was a difficult task, but we've done our best.

Here are two of the most stunning Oscar 2015 ensembles:

Cate Blanchett

She may have worn the most expensive dress in Oscar history last year to accept her award for Best Actress, with an outfit said to cost $18.1 million (£11.7 million), but this year Cate Blanchett opted for something a bit simpler.

The two-time Oscar winner wore a stunning floor-length gown in perfect shade of black. The high-necked style clung to her curves in all the right ways, showing off her enviably lithe figure.

In a soft velvet fabric, the dress looked luxurious without being too much. To work with the simple style, Cate chose to keep her makeup soft and subtle, allowing her ivory skin tone to make a statement against the deep colour of her gown.

With her hair swept back in a chic style that showed off her face, the Blue Jasmine actress chose to wear just one piece of jewellery. She finished her ensemble off with a statement Tiffany and Co turquoise necklace.

The layered piece combined misshapen turquoise pieces with clear stones to create a textured style that stood out perfectly against the black velvet dress. While it was a classic piece, the teaming of the two looks created a modern look that was perfectly on-trend for spring.

You can try teaming your little black dress with statement turquoise jewellery to create a bright and elegant outfit for any evening event.

Sophie Hunter

Making her debut appearance on the Oscar red carpet this year was Sophie Hunter, who came along to support her new husband Benedict Cumberbatch.

While there was no Best Actor award forthcoming for the Imitation Game actor, the new Mrs Cumberbatch looked effortlessly chic on the red carpet in a Grecian-inspired outfit.

The playwright dressed her burgeoning baby bump in a bright red, one-shoulder dress that looked stunning against her pale skin and glossy brunette locks. Sophie's dress was all flowing fabric and simplicity, making her look like a total Hollywood red carpet pro.

To add a modern touch to the outfit, one side of the dress featured a risque slit that went all the way up, with safety pin-style fastenings keeping it together from her thigh upwards. Similar fastenings were also used on the shoulder adding a bit of bling and interest to the otherwise simple dress.

The award-winning theatre director teamed the crimson fabric with statement gold cuff bracelets and a gold box clutch. However, our favourite piece of jewellery Sophie wore was her pair of large drop earrings.

With a stud fastening, the earrings has thin silver chain that ended in a blingy silver ball, which fell just above Sophie's shoulders. These were shown off perfectly by her elegant updo, which kept her hair swept back from her face.

Her outfit was completed with a subtle smoky eye and red lip, which perfectly suited her colouring. We can't wait to see what other daring and stunning outfits the singer brings to the red carpet.

If you want to get Sophie's look, try a pair of statement earrings from Majique's Summer 2015 collection, although the risque dress is up to you.
